Energy Audit Information
LANE COBURN & ASSOCIATESLANE COBURN & ASSOCIATES
Lane Coburn & Associates engineering has many years of experience providing energy audit studies and coordinating the construction and implementation of it’s recommendations. L.C.& a Engineering is familiar with all of the technologies, codes and utility incentives to provide real-life solutions to large energy bills. We are well versed in providing “Return on Investment” calculation for our clients. Lane Coburn & Associates is also LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Accredited. We will find the right solution for you. The following are some of the potential energy saving opportunities:

Lighting Retrofit
Magnetic Ballast and T-12 lamps can draw up to twice as much power as electronic ballast with T-8 lamps. In addition the utilities will typically pay up to 70% of the install cost for conversion to electronic lamps with T-8’s.

Lighting Controls
Lighting Controls can include a complete lighting control panel or independent photo and motion sensors. The utilities will pay up to 70% of the install cost for efficient lighting controls.

Efficient Transformers
More efficient transformation of electrical power serving non-linear loads can be accomplished with flux-shifting transformers. Higher efficient TP-1 transformers can be utilized in lieu of less efficient transformers. Many of the local utilities will pay up to 70% of the install cost for more efficient transformers. In addition the major local utilities are currently in the process of formulating rebate programs to offset the cost of retrofitting with the flux shifting type transformers.

Variable Frequency Drives
VFD’s convert AC power to DC and back to AC, remodulating the waveform. This re-configuring of the AC waveform provides a more efficient use of the motor, providing savings to the owner.

Power Factor Correction
Low power factor can increase I (squared) R losses in the internal wiring of a building. Utilities can also charge a penalty for low power factor. Distributed or large main capacitors can rectify a low power factor, reducing internal wiring losses and reduce or eliminate utility power factor penalty changes.

Energy Management
An owner can pay high peak demand charges to the utility. A single 15-minute peak can greatly increase monthly changes. A system wide analysis of loads and peak demand can provide information to reduce these charges.

New Technology
There are several new emerging technologies that will help reduce high utility bills. Some of this technology includes real time metering, another is an in-line filter that will eliminate harmonics at the load, reducing I(squared) R losses and increasing power quality.
